Here at An Elegant Affair, we want to walk you through the ideal dress shopping and fitting schedule, ensuring your dream dress is ready to wear down the aisle without a rush.
The Early Bird Gets the Gown: 12-18 Months Before
The Goal: Say "Yes" to the Dress
The very first step happens soon after the ring is on your finger. We recommend starting your dress shopping a solid 12 to 18 months before your wedding date. This might sound early, but it’s crucial for a few reasons:
Shopping Time: Give yourself a few months to browse, try on, and fall in love with a gown.
Production & Shipping Time: This is the most critical window! Once you order, wedding gowns generally take 4 to 6 months to be made and shipped to our boutique. Trust us, that time flies!
Peace of Mind: Ordering early means less worrying later.

Accessorize and Anticipate: 6-8 Months Before
The Goal: Finalize the Look and Wait for Arrival
Around the six-to-eight-month mark, your gown should be nearing completion or arrival! This is a great time to focus on the finishing touches that complete your wedding look.
Accessories: Your veil, headpieces, and other bridal accessories can take 3 to 4 months for delivery. Ordering them now ensures they are here in time for your first fitting.
Arrival Check-in: We'll be in touch once your gown arrives safely at our shop!
The Magic of the Fit: 2 Months Before
The Goal: Begin Alterations
Once your dress is here, the real transformation begins! We recommend scheduling your first alteration appointment with our professional seamstress around 2 months prior to your wedding date.
Alterations are a separate, essential service that perfects the fit of your gown to your body.
Cost & Booking: Please note that alterations are an additional cost and our seamstress operates by appointment on select days in store. Be sure to book your initial slots in advance!
The Process: Most of our brides will have 2 to 4 appointments total to ensure the fit is absolutely perfect, from the hem to the bustle.

The Grand Finale: 1-2 Weeks Before
The Goal: Final Pickup and Pressing
You’ve had your last fitting, the fit is flawless, and all that's left is the big day!
Once alterations are completed, we schedule a pick-up date for you. When you arrive, your gown will have been professionally ironed and steamed, perfectly pressed and ready to wear down the aisle. All you have to do is take it home (or to your venue!) and try not to peek too often!
